Hardware Requirements: Is Your Rig Ready for StarCraft 2?

With only two weeks left before StarCraft 2′s scheduled release, casual gamers around the world – especially RTS players -  better make sure their system specs are up to par. The game costs a whooping $60, or a lesser price if you’re willing to pay a monthly fee, depending on your region and version of preference. Without the hardware to fit the game’s requirements, one may find that his investment doesn’t yield the best gaming experience.

Colossus Swarm! Can your computer handle 800 food clashes?

Throughout the beta and especially since the introduction of 3v3 and 4v4 matches, the loading screen has often been a vague indicator as to who might be the weakest hardware link and most likely lag behind during the game.

Are you the one who always loads last? See if your system specs meet the official hardware requirements! Current PC hardware requirements and recommendations are as follows:

i just have one question why my radeon 4350 cant start the game on med setting …. what do you think is the problem ??

Yeah…the sys reqs are one of the dissuading factors for me. I could probably hobble along but to really play smoothly (vital for online play) I’d need more RAM and a new vidcard.

Oh well…the price of hardware will come down and I’ll maybe pick it up next Christmas. *sigh*

    I’m totally not ready ;(

Gotta spend some money I guess :)

And is there any information about Intel GPUs?

  6. Dave — July 14, 2010 @ 6:10 pm

My 3-year-old Macbook Pro can play the beta OK on low settings. And yeah, I’m one of the slow loaders on B.net. The real thing I’m worried about is how well the single-player game will look, especially the in-game cinematics. I want to upgrade but I just can’t right now.

Kronoss – I wouldn’t hold out much hope for the Intel GPUs. This just isn’t a game for low-powered systems. It’s definitely a step away from Blizzard’s old standard of trying to run their games on the widest possible range of hardware. I think those days are over.

I see nothing wrong with the hardware requirements. GeForce 6600gt came out over 6 years ago and 8800 GTX just under 3. Those are pretty generous considering current Nvidia GeForce 400 products are 5 generations beyond.

And if you want more RAM go online and buy some. You can get a gig for under $40. Stop complaining.

If you have a mac with the 9400M, you’re effed. For some reason, the graphics card before and after this model run fine, but that this one.

I just upgraded my system a month ago to handle the game and be able to video recordings. Check them out at http://www.youtube.com/user/theuentv Also, I created a website http://www.theuen.com that gives tips and strategies on playing and a lot of new players out there could use it to help them get better at the game. =)

Handled the beta beautifully on these specs:

    Windows 7 ultimate
    Pentium 4 d 3.2ghz
    3.00 gig ram
    9400 gt 512mb

Counting down the hours to the game that will last another good thirteen years like the first one! :D

  16. Ministry — July 23, 2010 @ 9:44 am

Just wondering, for those of us who haven’t had the chance to play the beta, is there going to be a playable demo released so we can test out our specs before buying them game?

  17. Ministry — July 23, 2010 @ 10:39 am

Sorry, that should read buying THE game at the end. My spelling seems to be a bit mangled today.

Just got my new laptop! What a coincidence that I needed to get a new work computer just in time for Starcraft 2… :)

  19. dsp4 — July 26, 2010 @ 12:15 pm

    Current specs are:
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz
    2GB DDR2-PC6400 800MHz
    Geforce 8800 GTX 768MB

Runs the game beautifully at 1920×1200.

Just upgraded the girlfriend’s computer to the following:
    AMD Athlon X2 4600+ 2.4GHz
    2GB DDR-PC3200 400MHz
    Radeon HD 5770 512MB

Her setup yields even better results and the upgrade was only 280$ on a five year old computer (although it was built with upgrades in mind back then).
