Anonymous — March 3, 2010 @ 2:15 pm

SC is in my opinion the best strategy game ever made, by its diversity and by the balanced teams and a wonderful multiplayer challenge. The game was too old now and seriously needed an update, even for a fanatic like me.

I've been playing some games in the beta and the game is already working nicely and just changing one unit is already enough to change one entire race's strategy. SC2 is not just a 3D SC1, a lot has changed, but the main key units did not die and that's great. If you change everything then there is no point in calling it SC2 since it would have nothing to do with the first one!

Anyway, I have a recommendation to you... C&C4 is in the beta phase too. Wait until it comes out and enjoy! It sure did not take 10 years to develop and it is still a great game.
I'm sure I'll be entertained with it for several weeks, maybe months, then the game dies!
As for SC2, I'm sure I'll be entertained with it for several years...

Indeed, actually I think SC2 is going to be a too similar experience to SC1. I have watched quite a few replays now, and I see the overall gameplay and mechanics are the EXACT same as in SC1.

Not only that, but the races themselves seem to me as too similar to what they were back in SC1. Frankly, if I wanted to play SC1 I would, duh! play SC1.

Most units are either back exactly as they were (archons, mutas, tanks, dark templars), with minimal and uninteresting changes (marines, zerglings, zealots, bcs, templars, ultras) or have been just remodeled and renamed into "new" units.

What I mean by "new" in the last point is that several of the new units don't actually offer any new gameplay at all. For example the Banshee is just a more effective air-to-ground Wraith (think cloaked-wraith rush to worker lines back in the old days). The Mothership, as mentioned in this blog, is just a resilient Arbiter. The Hellion is a glorified, faster Firebat.

Since there won't be any radical changes at this point I present my review already: all that can be said for SC2 is that it's just an incremental improvement over SC1. Hard-core fanatics of SC1 will appreciate playing the same game in 3D and with a few things moved around, while the rest of us will just scratch our heads thinking how could this thing have taken 10 years to release.

Am I the only one that gets the intention that Toss is somehow the most boring race now? I mean.....when blizz revealed sc2, toss was the first race that was presented. then terra and zerg followed and got tweaked,remade a lot. the only thing that happened with toss during the first exhibition is that the removed nearly ALL new aspects...which really sucks. i can remember how blizz once said, toss is the race they feel they have nearly finished and then they put all their effort in terra and zerg. which turned out to be awesome. and if something didn't fit, they thought of new cool ideas.

But toss...Ok, hover-skaters didn't fit, gladly they're out....but..... :
Moveable Cannons, Dark Carrier (or at least the cool vs-ground shield), Overload ability, months of Mothership-discussions and over ten!!! fkin years of time to come up with NEW things, -> Arbiter. great. thanks blizz. also archons and templars are nearly the same, which i hoped they might come up with freh and nice new ideas.

well, i see the point in not including everything that sounds cool just to have new cool features that don't work out.
but seriously, YOU WOULDN'T NEED OVER 10 DAMN LONG YEARS to make toss ending up almost like it was back in sc1. i expected MORE changes and new aspects since the first presentation, not ending up two years later with 90% of new ideas turned down to old style sc......

@NuLLiFiER
i was referring to sc2 beta, but it turns out it just logs you out and then reloads and you can watch old replays, so it's not that bad

@Spock
holy cow, learn how to use the internet. If you want up to date news, go to starfeeder, or sc2armory or team liquid's sc2 page. You can also find tons of sc2 vids @ http://www.youtube.com/HuskyStarcraft

You don't need several copies of SC2 installed in order to watch the older replays. The game itself saves information of every version he had until the present one and automatically loads the correct one when you click an older replay.

That's a relief since I really did not like to have 7-8 different versions of SC1 installed back in the time I used to play it and this saves a lot of work! =)

I almost wasn’t able to comment on the state of the Starcraft 2 beta, since I didn’t get an invite with a key, but fortunately that has changed.

A little while ago I was searching for free giveaways. They all turned out to be scams to get more followers or whatever.

Hopefully everyone who wants a SC2 key can get one! That’s what I really want!
