One comment to all the gamers that think they know shit about software.

I am not a gamer, I am a coder, and I do understand (unlike most of you gamers that stop at pci card swapping) hardware.

There is no real difference between an integrated graphics adapter and a PCIe/PCI/AGP/Anyotherbus card. Let's consider that you have two machines, one with an integrated card, the other with a PCIe card. Both have the same chip (let's say, an NVIDIA 6800). They are both connected to the same bus, logically speaking, the Physical path is different, but they connect to the same bus, have the same chip with the same capabilities, and will deliver the same performance. Now, the difference is that the PCIe card will have its own memory, and the integrated one will draw memory from your system. Nowdays, graphic cards use the same DDR2 memory than your machine. The connection is a little bit more indirect, which means less bandwidth between GPU and memory, but it won't be that noticeable. Otherwise, it's exactly the same card. So, being integrated is not a bad thing at all.

The thing is that most times you will be comparing a cutting-edge 9000 series PCIe card with 1 GB of dedicated RAM to an old 6000 series that is sharing a max of 128 MB from your main memory. Or you'll be comparing an Intel card to an NVIDIA card.

Anyway, Intel GPUs are much, much better than nvidia's GPUs. Why?
Here is why:

- Intel has decent, fully open source drivers. NVIDIA has shitty, privative drivers.
- Intel has fully disclosed their specs. NVIDIA hasn't.
- Intel has gotten very close to NVIDIA's performance in only a few years of development, they'll beat them and ATI in a few more years.
- Intel is an OpenGL supporter, and they are not suggesting we all move into the windows-only Directshit.

So, I don't care if you can get a few more FPSs out of your NVIDIA card, or if it has the BullShitPrivativeIncompatibleWithStandardOpenGL (TM) extension. Intel plays nicer, and doesn't require me to sell my soul to some crappy EULA.
