PC Gamer’s January 2008 Issue names the “Top 8 of 2008″ games, and surely enough, StarCraft 2 makes the list easily – especially considering the fact that the 10 year old StarCraft still outsells most of this year’s RTS games.

The kind people of StarCraftLive.net have produced high-resolution scans of the most interesting part of the magazine – a huge two-page screenshot, showing a clash between large Protoss and Terran forces.

PC Gamer added text boxes to explain exactly what can be seen in the screenshot, and there truly is a lot of action going on.

Left Side:

• A Stalker teleports from higher ground.
• Colossi are descending from higher ground while being attacked by anti-air defenses and wiping out tightly bunched infantry.
• A Terran Siege Tank passes over a lowered supply depot that is used to block the upper choke point
• The Thor looks cool

Right Side:

• A Twilight Archon and Protoss cannons in energy form
• … Are met with freshly deployed Reaper mines.
• A good ol’ Psi Storm appears to be hitting a bunched group of marines.
• Firebat sighting – the unit everyone loved but nobody used is back.
• A BattleCruiser opens AoE fire upon the warping Stalkers
• … Not that it matters, because the Nuclear missle is about to hit that spot in a few seconds.

A great screenshot indeed – perhaps the single most action packed one Blizzard has ever released. The screenshot shows that the game’s development stage is quite advanced, and while the puzzle pieces begin to show the big picture, a piece remains missing.
A big, gooey, scary, acid-spitting, evolutionary-perfect piece.

   I like how toss is pushing with their cannons and “warp-in”s thru the phase prism. Oh- and they also got their colossi+stalkers on higher ground.
   I wanna see more immortal action, too
   how many do you guys think immortals can win against thor 3? 4?

   It is quite impressive; it being one of the best games of 2008. Especially in light of the fact that over two years later, it still remains unreleased.
